CTDOT has been working with Metro-North to minimize train conflicts and unexpected train delays. In a release, DOT said, “the New Haven Line capital investment program is designed to improve the reliability of the railroad and set the stage for higher speed train service over the next several years. Metro-North said in a statement, “Our new timetables are designed to more accurately reflect how the railroad's progressive infrastructure improvement plan affects train running times, resulting in a more reliable and safe service for our customers.” The schedule changes will affect train times on weekdays and weekends. With the progress made in 2020, the MTA has demonstrated that the public funds given to them were used wisely and efficiently.The state Department of Transportation said the work will include Metro-North track maintenance and CTDOT capital projects including bridge replacement and new interlockings. “Metro North’s achievements during the past year are significant and impressive,” Paulin said. “As Chair of the Assembly’s Authorities and Corporations Committee, our committee needs to ensure that the MTA makes improvements both quickly and cost-effectively. State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-White Plains, applauded the railroad’s efforts last year. But the MTA said billions more will be needed in the coming years. In December, the federal government agreed to give Metro-North’s parent agency, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, $4 billion so it could continue operating next year. In recent days, the weekday average was down 80 percent from 2019 levels.Ī railroad survey conducted this summer revealed that Metro-North’s most reliable commuters – workers in the financial and professional industries – continue working from home. Metro-North’s ridership continues to trend at levels well below those typically seen this time of year. And on New York City subways, on-time performance was nearly 89 percent, the best in recent history.
